To apply for a CRB clearance certificate in Kenya, one needs to register with CRB agents like Metropol (via *433#, Crystobol App, or website) or TransUnion (21272 or Nipashe App) and creditinfo Via M-Pesa app.

N/B. The standard government-mandated fee for a clearance certificate is KSh 2,200, though some bureaus offer your very first certificate for free.

Method 1:Apply CRB clearance certificate through Metropol CRB (Fastest & Most Popular)

Metropol CRB offers several ways to apply instantly:

Process: Register for KSh 50 (via Paybill 220388), then apply for the certificate and pay the KSh 2,200 fee.

Method 2:Apply CRB clearance certificate through TransUnion CRB

Process: Register with KSh 50 (Paybill 212121), then request your certificate. Note: TransUnion typically offers the first certificate for free.

Method 3:Apply CRB clearance certificate through Creditinfo CRB VIA M-Pesa

Creditinfo has three ways to apply for a CRB clearance certificate

  • Web Portal: Apply directly via the Creditinfo Clearance Portal.
  • M-PESA App: Launch the M-PESA App, go to “Services,” select “My Credit Report,” and follow the prompts to get your certificate.
  • SMS­: send an SMS of your IDno to 23768

Method 4:Apply CRB clearance certificate by Physical Visit (Huduma Centres)

You can visit Huduma Centres (specifically the GPO branch in Nairobi or major regional offices) to get assistance with the application process.

Key Requirements

  1. Documents: A valid National ID or Passport.
  2. Registration Fee: Generally KES 50 to register.
  3. Certificate Fee: Approximately KES 2,200 for the final clearance certificate.
  4. Free Report: Individuals can get one free credit report every 12 months.

Important Tips

  • A clearance certificate indicates you have no negative listings. If you have defaulted on loans, you will be issued with a credit status report instead.
  • Ensure all your details are correct before applying, as data is updated frequently.
  • If you have cleared your loans, but the system still shows a default, present your proof of payment to the credit bureau to have the record updated.
  • Clear Debt First: If you have any active “Negative” listings (defaults), you will receive a Credit Status Certificate (red/blacklisted status) instead of a Clearance Certificate. Pay off outstanding loans first and wait 48 hours for the system to update.
  • Validity: The certificate is only valid for one day (the date of issue) because your credit status can change daily.
