Before starting, ensure you have clear copies of the following:
- Identification: Copy of your National ID or Passport.
- Tax Compliance: Copy of your KRA PIN certificate.
- Property Ownership: Copy of title deed, land search documents, or a tenancy agreement (with a landlord’s consent letter if you are a tenant).
- Location: A route sketch map or pin location leading to the premises.
- Safety: A Wiring Completion Certificate signed by a licensed electrical contractor (registered with EPRA).
- Application Channels
There are various channels to apply for a kenya power meter
- Online Portal: Visit the KPLC Self-Service Portal and select “New Supply Application”.
- Mobile App: Download the MyPower app (available on Android and iOS), register, and choose “New Supply Application”.
- USSD Code: Dial *977# on a Safaricom line and select “New Connections” to initiate the process via your phone.
- In-Person: Visit your nearest Kenya Power office or Huduma Centre to fill out the “Enquiry for Supply of Electricity” form.
Process Steps
- Submission: Submit your form and documents. You will receive an Application Reference Number.
- Site Inspection: KPLC engineers will visit your site to assess the connection requirements and verify wiring.
- Quotation: You will be issued a quotation detailing connection costs. This is typically sent via SMS or email within 7 to 28 days.
- Payment: Pay the quoted amount via
- M-Pesa Paybill 888899 (using your reference number as the account),
- Electronic funds transfer (RTGS) to KPLC Bank Account No. 0104074121608
- Cheque to KPLC (Quote your application reference number and contact number overleaf of the cheque)
- Cash payment at KPLC Payment office
Installation: Once payment is verified, KPLC will schedule the meter installation and activate your connection.
Note on Costs: Connection fees vary significantly. Standard domestic connections often range from KSh 15,000 (under the Last Mile project) to KSh 35,000+ depending on the proximity to existing infrastructure
