Applying for a Kenyan passport online makes the service more decentralized unlike before when one had to travel all the way to the city to acquire a passport. Now if you are in Mandera or Kilifi you still can apply for a passport just like the guy in Nairobi.

What You Need to Apply For a Kenyan PassPort 

• An pre-filled e-Citizen  passport application form and three receipts.
• Original birth certificate and photocopy.
• Original National ID Card & copy.
• Three Current passport size photos.
• Recommender’s ID Card copy.
• Consent letter for minors.
• Old passport for replacement.
• Parents National ID cards and copy

The Procedure of Applying For a Kenyan Passport Online 

Here are steps that any Kenyan who is applying for a passport online will need to follow.

1. Log on to the eCitizen portal and register an account.

2. Once registered go to the Department of Immigration services
3. Click submit application then head to passport and temporary permits
4. Click on “Passport Application Form”. Here you will find instructions that will guide you on how to fill the application form.
5. Once you have grasped the instructions click on “Apply Now” and fill the application as instructed in 4 above.
6. With the application form filled you need to choose how to pay, you have the option of M-Pesa, Airtel Money Debit / credit card and eCitizen agent
7. Once done download the application with three receipts and submit the form in person to I an immigration center close to you. (Mombasa, Kisumu and Nairobi-Nyayo house)

Here are the various passport fees revised for 2026

According to the Directorate of immigration service .As of the March 2024 revised fees, a standard 34-page Kenyan passport costs Ksh 7,550, while 50-page and 66-page booklets cost Ksh 9,550 and Ksh 12,050 respectively. Express services are significantly higher, with costs reaching up to Ksh 30,000, and replacing lost passports costs Ksh 20,000.

It’s imperative to note that there will be a Ksh. 50 convenience fee  (some necessary evil you have to content with). Payments via Debit/Credit Card will attract a 2.5% handling fee.
