The Kenya Polytechnic University College was established through a presidential Legal Order on the 23rd August 2007 as a constituent college of the University of Nairobi. This is in line with some of the Government strategies outlined in the Sessional Paper No. I of 2005 entitled “A policy framework for education training and research”. Some of the strategies include:

Creating opportunities for National Polytechnics to offer degree level programmes while retaining their present mandate.
Establishing a mechanism for the accreditation of National Polytechnics to offer degrees beginning with Kenya and Mombasa Polytechnics.

Giving National Polytechnics operational autonomy
